The Role
This is a role requiring flair and creativity in addition to sound musical abilities. The Musical Director will lead the group of singers, inspiring them to improve their techniques and widen their range of musical ability, whilst enjoying singing together.
The successful applicant will initially be employed for a probationary period of 3 months after which time it will be open to review by both parties.
Main purpose of the Job
To be responsible for the development and enjoyment of the choir
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare, rehearse and conduct the Choir in regular weekly, and occasional ad hoc rehearsals.
- Conduct the Choir at all public performances and special events
- Lead and inspire the members towards high musical standards, both with and without musical scores.
- Devise and run practical and timely rehearsal schedules
- Develop the Choir’s skill in singing a cappella
- Maintain a professional relationship with the accompanist
- Review and determine the repertoire in consultation with the committee, which will challenge and develop, but provide a good mix of music styles and ability level.
- Prepare a programme of warm ups to develop choral skills
- Contribute to all the artistic and technical activities of the Choir
- To liaise with Chair in the preparation of concerts
Required Abilities, Skills and Knowledge
- A thorough knowledge of vocal technique and repertoire is essential
- An ability to read music and an appropriate musical qualification
- Motivational skills and experience to work in a voluntary-based organisation, with singers who have a wide range of experience and ability
- Experience as a choral conductor would be desirable

Interview and audition
Our Committee will invite applicants to meet with three members for an interview on a Monday rehearsal night in erly September 2022. We will then arrange a time during the evening for the candidate to ‘lead a rehearsal’ for about 20 minutes when members will have the chance to meet in both a formal and informal context.
