Vacancy:  Chamber Orchestra Conductor, Warrington Youth Orchestra Ltd.

Warrington Youth Orchestra Ltd. (WYO) is a charitable organisation run entirely by volunteers. WYO offers young people in Warrington and the surrounding area the chance to learn orchestral instruments and make music in a real orchestral setting. WYO invites applications for the position of Conductor, Chamber Orchestra.

Chamber Orchestra children are expected to play at grade 3 to 5 level (UK ABRSM grading system). This is a training orchestra, giving orchestral experience to our young musicians graduating from our junior groups before they are ready to join our Symphony Orchestra.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview and lead a short rehearsal on Saturday 3rd November 2018. Reasonable travel expenses will be refunded.

When we meet
All Saturday mornings in term time. Rehearsals start at 9.30 and end at 12:00. Concert dates for the upcoming season are provisionally as follows: Saturday 15 December 2018 during rehearsal time; Sunday 10th February 2019, afternoon rehearsal and evening performance; Saturday 13th July 2019 during rehearsal time.

Position Description: The Chamber Conductor is responsible for her/his orchestra at rehearsals, performances and concerts. She/he collaborates with other Conductors and the Trustees of the Orchestra to select the repertoire for the season. With the Trustees’ permission, she/he represents WYO at public events, recruiting events and media opportunities. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the overall development and progression of the Chamber Orchestra.

Approximate yearly earnings

Annual salary is in the region of £3,000 for Saturday morning rehearsals and concerts.

The position is initially offered on a one year fixed term basis with a probationary period of one term.
