Teddington Chamber Choir is seeking an accompanist and assistant musical director from January 2019. We rehearse on Tuesday evenings in Teddington, south-west London, from 8:15 - 10:15pm in term time (usually 10 rehearsals a term). We sing a wide range of chamber music either a capella or accompanied by piano, organ or orchestra. We rehearse at St Mark's Church, Teddington and most of our concerts are held there. We tend to put on 2 concerts a year and an evensong service every two years in the spring term.
The successful candidate will be required to accompany the choir on the piano at Tuesday evening rehearsals and take the rehearsal when the musical director is unavailable. They will also be required to play organ when necessary for services or concerts. There will be opportunities for solo performance and conducting the choir in concerts. Last term our accompanist performed a Mozart piano concerto with orchestra.
Essential skills:
Accomplished pianist and organist
Excellent sight-reading skills including score reading
Experience accompanying choirs or singers
Willingness and interest in developing conducting skills
Desirable skills:
Training at degree level in piano or organ, especially a post graduate qualification in accompaniment.
Good knowledge of sacred and secular choral music
Experience playing organ for church services
Experience in choral conducting
Ability to sing
Rehearsal fee is £45 per 2 hour rehearsal
Concert and performance fees vary according to length and repertoire
Short - listed candidates will be invited to meet the choir at a rehearsal in January 2019. This term we are working on Finzi, 7 songs on poems by Robert Bridges, Mendelssohn part songs and a range of Carols. You will be asked to play the organ and conduct the choir during this rehearsal.
