Accompanist

Job Description:

To provide professional standard piano accompaniment at all term time Thursday evening rehearsals of Stewkley Singers under the leadership of the Musical Director (MD). The role will include accompanying the choir at concerts and occasionally deputising for the MD.

Key Responsibilities:

• Attend all term time Thursday rehearsals 7.30pm (8pm start) - 10pm (usually held at St Michael’s School, Stewkley)
• Accompany the choir at concerts and occasional events
• Promote the good name and reputation of the Stewkley Singers

Desirable:

• It would be an advantage to have experience of directing from the keyboard, taking rehearsals (eg in the absence of the Music Director) and occasional sectionals.

Accompanist Specification:

• A skilled pianist or organist; a sensitive accompanist with excellent sight-reading and score reading skills, willing to prepare fully in advance of each rehearsal.
• Fluent in reading short score and open score, SATB.
• Able to work as part of a team.
• Good sense of humour.

Conditions:

• The current rate is £1500 per annum, paid monthly (£125 per month) pro rata by Bank Transfer in arrears.
• Fees are reviewed annually by the Committee.
• There will be a probationary period of full preparation for one concert/ set of concerts, at the end of which the post will be confirmed by the Committee together with the MD.
• Once confirmed, the position will be renewable on a yearly basis. Notice of termination on either side will normally be one whole term.
