Southampton Philharmonic Choir has been making music live in Southampton and its environs since 1860 and, since 1965, has been augmented in its rehearsals and performances by Southampton University Philharmonic Choir. The combined choir currently numbers around 150 members. We meet from 19:30 to 21:30 on Mondays (term time, September to June), at Turners Sims, the concert hall on the University of Southampton’s Highfield campus.
The choir, which is auditioned, aims for a high standard, and generally works with professional soloists and orchestras, under the direction of a professional conductor, David Gibson. Our repertoire is varied – within the past ten years, we’ve performed Monteverdi Vespers and Howard Goodall Eternal Light, and plenty in between. We also occasionally commission new works.
Rate of remuneration is negotiable and is subject to an annual review. A probationary period of one term will apply. This is a self-employed position for approximately 32 weeks per annum. For more information, or to apply, please email our Chair, Kate Greaves, (chair@southamptonphil.org). Applications should be sent with your CV and a covering letter, by no later than 25 April 2025.
