Redditch Orchestra is a symphony orchestra founded in 1948. The Orchestra is made up of 35 members and it is enlarged for concerts to 40-50 players depending on the programme. Concerts are usually held in Redditch, Studley and at Artrix, Bromsgrove.
We are now seeking a conductor with the vision, energy and musicianship to lead the orchestra for the coming years. S/he must have experience of leading orchestral ensembles and of working with a diverse range of talents.
The orchestra rehearses on a Thursday night during term time in Redditch and presents a concert towards the end of each term. The Orchestra repertoire is varied, but mainly comes from the classical, romantic and early twentieth century. We also present more “popular” programmes including Festive favourites, music from the ballet etc. Programmes are designed to be interesting and a challenge for players to rehearse, to attract an audience and to be financially viable in terms of music hire, copyright and soloists fees. Soloists playing with the Orchestra have included Frank Wibaut, Elaine Donohoe, Anup Biswas, Martin Millner, Charlotte Moseley and Rebecca Eldridge and soloists from within our own members performing standard concertos plus challenging works such as the Barber and Szymanowski violin concertos.
