Associate Musical Director
London & South East
Organisation: The Occam Singers
We are a 30 strong Guildford-based Chamber Choir giving high quality performances across a wide repertoire both a cappella and with orchestra/keyboard/instrumental accompaniment, as can be seen from our web site https://occamsingers.co.uk/concerts.html. We were formed some 40 years ago by our Musical Director David Gibson. David has now to give more time to his educational work so we need to recruit an Associate Musical Director to deliver alternate concerts with David, starting with our Christmas 2020 concert, with a view to taking over the MD post in 2 to 3 years time.
We normally have 4 concerts each year, held usually at Holy Trinity or St Nicolas' Churches in the centre of Guildford. We rehearse on Sunday evenings at Onslow Village Hall, GU2 7QR, and typically hold 6 rehearsals including one on a Thursday evening before each concert. The AMD will expected to provide keyboard accompaniment at each. We have a rolling 18 month programme delivering our vision of being a friendly Choir that enjoys singing a wide repertoire, giving great performances with enthusiasm and professionalism, that are enjoyed by our audiences and raise money for our Charity for the Year.
We are looking for an AMD who shares our vision and is able to provide the energy, commitment and musicianship to help us deliver it. If you think you'd like and are excited by the challenge, please email a copy of your CV, contact details and on no more than half a side of A4 a statement as to why you think you would be able to meet the challenge and join our MD in leading the choir to deliver our vision. Please send it to occams2bob@aol.com by Monday 9th March 2020.
Shortlisted candidates will be informed by Monday 23 March and invited to attend an interview and audition with the choir later that month or during April. Subject to satisfactory references, the successful applicant will then be informed in May and expected to take up the post for our first Christmas concert rehearsal in November 2020. The award will be subject to a probationary period of one year
