The New Tyneside Orchestra is seeking a Musical Director from January 1st 2020 to take over from Monica Buckland, who is moving to Australia.
The New Tyneside Orchestra, founded in 1970, is an all-age, high-ability amateur orchestra, open to anyone who enjoys making music and has achieved at least Grade 8 standard on their instrument. We currently have about 60 members who meet on Monday evenings from 19:30 to 21:30 in Chillingham Road Sports and Arts Hall, Newcastle upon Tyne, for about 33 weeks of the year (primarily during the three school term times).
The orchestra performs three major concerts a year at prestigious venues around Newcastle. Past performances have included the Rite of Spring, an entire programme inspired by Dr Martin Luther King Jr, Mahler's 1st Symphony and other symphonic favourites such as Scheherazade and Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances. We enjoy developing our repertoire and seek a Musical Director with the ability to deliver exciting and enjoyable rehearsals to a high musical standard and who is able to inspire confidence in players with varied musical skill and experience. The Musical Director will work closely with the orchestra's committee and will be jointly responsible for programming. The post will be remunerated at £2,250 per annum.
