The Phil is an auditioned mixed SATB chorus of about 120 singers who perform around five concerts each year. The Phil’s home performance space is normally Leeds Town Hall, which is currently undergoing refurbishment meaning recent concerts have been given in many different locations.
Rehearsals take place in the centre of Leeds on Thursday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.45pm from September to the end of June, timings and venue are under review.
Our Chorus Master, Joseph Judge has been programming and conducting concerts in recent years and supports our Music Director, David Hill MBE, in achieving high performance standards. David will return to conduct the chorus in our autumn 2024 Concert which will feature Howard Goodall’s “Eternal Light” and John Rutter’s “Feel the Spirit”.
We are looking for an accompanist that shares our love of choral music and who will relish the prospect of helping train the chorus in repertoire both traditional and contemporary. They should be fluent on the keyboard, with good sight-reading and score-reading abilities, preferably with experience of the demands of choral accompaniment. On occasion the accompanist may have the opportunity to lead full rehearsals or sectionals to help train the chorus. Opportunities exist for playing at our concerts as accompanist or soloist. Being able to play the organ as well may be advantageous.
Remuneration will be based on the Musician’s Union recommended fees for Accompanists and subject to an annual review.
