Finchley Symphony Orchestra, an accomplished and friendly amateur orchestra, seeks a Leader to succeed George Mattar who is stepping down after many years. We give 5 concerts a year usually in the comfortable, recently refurbished Trinity Church where we also rehearse on Thursdays from 7:30 to 10:00 during term time.
Responsibilities include
- working with Music Director Chris Stark and the committee to inspire and develop the orchestra
- leading the orchestra for all concerts and rehearsals. Up to two rehearsals per term may be missed subject to advance notice and arranging a suitable deputy, but these must not be either of the last two rehearsals before a concert
- bowing parts for all string sections before the first rehearsal or as soon as possible thereafter
- taking occasional string sectional rehearsals
Applicants should be:
·accomplished professional-level violinists
·experienced in leading orchestras and performing orchestral violin solos
·strong team players able to establish rapport with conductors and other orchestra members.
Our players are of at least grade 7 standard and some are professionally trained. Experience of working with adult amateur musicians is desirable.
We may invite applicants to lead a single rehearsal on a trial basis, then to lead for a single concert and all rehearsals leading up to it before making a longer-term appointment.
