Choir accompanist

We are a non-auditioned choir of one hundred and twenty voices in South London. We rehearse between Clapham and Wandsworth Commons (SW11) and are one of the most experienced and accomplished choirs in the area. We perform three concerts a year (St Luke’s Church, Ramsden Road SW12 8RQ), employing professional orchestras and soloists. The choir is open to all regardless of ability or experience.

Our Musical Director is Andrea Brown who has been with us for four years. She conducts and directs several choirs and is currently Director of Choral Conducting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

We are seeking an accompanist to work with us from September 2019. We rehearse on Mondays evenings during term time from 7.45 – 9.45pm plus two three-hour Saturday morning sessions each term. The successful applicant will also have the chance to take part rehearsals.

After appointment there will be the possibility for the post holder to apply to the committee for funding for personal development. Our current accompanist, who has been with the choir for twelve years, has, with our support, completed several modules of a conducting course which has led her to be able to take rehearsals and recently be promoted to Assistant Musical Director.

Required:

• Excellent piano skills
• Experience of accompanying choirs,
• Experience of coaching singers and vocal technique.
• Continuo and organ skills would be useful
• A flexible and creative approach to choral accompaniment
