Cantanti Camerati is an auditioned mixed voice chamber choir of up to 36 singers, specialising in all genres of the small choir repertoire, ranging from early music to the present day.
We have an interesting and varied annual concert programme commencing each year with a light-hearted, cabaret style concert at Teddington’s Normansfield Theatre, (a rare jewel of a Victorian Theatre). In 2017 we were accompanied by The Guards Saxophone Quartet. The subsequent concerts included a joint venture with St Richard Reynolds school choir performing Britten’s St Nicholas and Chilcott’s Five Days that Changed the World, a choral tapestry concert comprising Tudor anthems, English partsongs, and American folksong settings, and a traditional carol concert at St Mary’s Twickenham, with brass band, handbells, pipe tabor and melodeon, accomplished choral singing and soaring descants, all preceded by a quarter peal from the tower.
In 2018 we will be celebrating our 50th anniversary year with a similarly ambitious programme, and in addition a celebratory party in June. We have an established reputation, aspire to high musical standards, and are the lucky owners of an extensive music library.
We are now seeking a talented and enthusiastic Musical Director who will bring energy and enthusiasm to furthering our musical accomplishments and building strong membership of the choir. Commencement date from April 2018. The ideal candidate will have excellent keyboard skills to accompany the choir during rehearsals, and in performance. They will also have the skills to conduct a choral group, both unaccompanied and with instrumental ensemble, or organ/piano accompaniment.
The choir rehearses at Richmond and Hillcroft Adult Community College, Parkshot, Richmond upon Thames, TW9 2RE, between 7.30 and 9.30pm, each Thursday during three college terms from September to July, and gives 4 to 6 public performances each year.
The job holder will be under contract to the college as a course tutor for 2 hours per week for rehearsals during term time.
In addition, the choir will pay concert fees (normally £300 to £450 per concert, depending on work involved eg preparation of instrumentalists or arranging parts etc) plus 50% for a matinee on the same day.
