The Canbury Singers is a community based choir in Kingston-Upon-Thames.
Formed in 2007, as part of the Canbury Arts Trust, by a small group of locals who just wanted to sing, the choir has grown into a 50 strong group of enthusiastic and dedicated singers with a good reputation. We are a friendly, fun loving choir without an audition process comprising a range of members from sight readers to those re-starting singing after some years. We meet on a Monday night and look to perform three concerts a year together with a few charity and Christmas events including two socials. We are seeking a successor for September 2020 when our current musical director, Adam Hope, moves to take up a new professional post. The successful candidate will be keen to continue enhancing the singing and performing skills of the choir that Adam has instilled and shape the next part of our journey as a group. We have a regular professional accompanist.

Members have an eclectic musical interest ranging from choral, religious and secular to jazz and stage musical genres, taking in African-American spirituals, European folk songs and sea shanties along the way. The choir is managed by an active committee who work closely with the Musical Director on repertoire and performance planning.

In our new Musical Director we will preferably find an able musician and conductor with a broad knowledge and appreciation of both the tradition of the choral repertoire and some background experience of working with a community choir on modern and secular pieces, highlighting vocal technique. The person will show strong leadership and interpersonal skills, the willingness to work alongside an active committee and accompanist and a strong desire for this choir to continue to grow in stature, whilst having fun, and celebrating its community spirit.
