The Bradford Chorale invites applications for the post of Musical Director from September 2018.

We are an SATB choir founded in 1976, performing concerts typically in Spring and Autumn, a Summer concert of a capella and keyboard accompanied repertoire, and a Christmas concert.

Our past repertoire has covered a wide range of traditional choral works with an occasional venture into the very modern or avant garde. Where budget allows or programming dictates we have performed with symphony or chamber orchestral accompaniment. Where programming has required larger choral forces, for example our performance of Verdi Requiem in 2014, we have collaborated with, and invited singers from, other choirs. Our Christmas concerts often include a children’s choir from a local Parish Church. For most performances we employ professional or semi-professional soloists, often students from local music colleges. Recruitment of new singers is high on our agenda and we hold open rehearsals and ‘come-and-sing’ events on a regular basis.

Currently we number around 40 members, mostly experienced singers with a reasonably fluent level of sight-reading ability. We rehearse on Tuesday nights for two hours from 7.30pm in the Bradford suburb of Shipley, over periods roughly coinciding with school terms.

We have a Deputy MD who is a singing member of the choir, who leads non-concert activities such as special carol-singing events and who substitutes for the MD by prior arrangement. Our highly accomplished accompanist has been with us for several years, on occasion also conducting rehearsals and playing at concert performances.

We welcome applications from ambitious and creative musicians. We are looking for an enthusiastic musician with relevant experience of working with choirs and of conducting concerts with and without an orchestra, with wide knowledge of the choral repertoire (both sacred and secular), who enjoys working with amateur singers and with good communication skills.

The Musical Director will be responsible to and supported by the choir committee and will advise the Music sub-committee in respect of their choice of concert repertoire.

The post is a paid position with negotiable remuneration.

Please send a letter of application and CV including details of musical qualifications and experience to:

Mr Ian R.
