The Wincanton Choral Society Winter Concert will take place in the LED Wincanton Sports Centre, West Hill, Wincanton BA9 9SP, on Sunday 8th December 2019 at 7.30pm.
The main works for the choir will be Vivaldi's joyous 'Gloria' and the lesser-known but splendid 'Messe de Minuit' by Charpentier. This setting of the Mass features carols popular in Charpentier's day - he was born slightly before Vivaldi in 1643, in Paris. To continue the baroque theme the professional orchestra will play Corelli's Concerto Grosso in G minor, Op. 6, No. 8 - the ‘Christmas Concerto’; and - with the choir and soloists - numbers from Bach's Christmas Oratorio and Handel's Messiah. And of course a couple of well-known carols to exercise the audience's own vocal chords!
This will be the choir's first concert with their outstanding new director of music. Katrine Reimers, with her dynamism, musicality and enthusiasm will ensure that this concert performance is outstanding and very exciting!
