We bring our Diamond Anniversary season to a thrilling close with Verdi’s choral masterpiece, his Messa da Requiem. Sometimes described as ‘Verdi’s greatest opera’, the Requiem is certainly theatrical, with its fire-and brimstone vision of the Day of Judgment, virtuoso solos, and the waves of sound emanating from orchestra and chorus. But it is also a deeply moving and very personal response to the inevitability of death.
Verdi insisted that the Requiem should be performed in a large space, preferably a church. The beautiful Gorton Monastery will be the ideal setting to hear and feel the power of this awe-inspiring work.
St George's Singers will be joined by Stockport Symphony Orchestra and Sheffield Chorale and soprano Rachel Nicholls, contralto Joyce Tinsley, Tenor Matthew Minter and Baritone Colin Campbell.
