Orlando Chamber Choir and Orchestra perform the magnum opus of Johann Sebastian Bach’s vocal works: the Mass in B minor. To set the Mass text, the composer compiled and arranged the best works of his career, like a curator picking from his collection the most beautiful exhibition of his life. The Crucifixus is adapted from one of Bach’s earliest cantatas, composed in 1714, while the Incarnatus est is the very last piece he wrote before his death. The instrumental scale of the Mass in B minor matches its musical ambition, combining stellar soloists, a choir (that’s us!) and an oversized orchestra featuring trumpets, timpani, a horn and an extended wind section. There’s nothing minor about Bach’s Mass but its key!
