The Crickhowell Music Festival celebrates 25 years of wonderful music-making in May 2019, over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend.
The Crickhowell Choral Society-led Festival programmes have always strived to breathe new life into both familiar and less well-known masterpieces. They have met with much critical acclaim over the years and attracted many notable performers such as Emma Kirkby and James Gilchrist. 2019 promises some more fantastic music-making, including a semi-dramatised perfoamance of Purcell's The Fairy-Queen ( a magical work that opened the first Festival in 1995) and a stylish performance of Bach's mighty B Minor Mass. A much anticipated, star-studded line-up of soloists will include recent Royal Wedding soprano, Elin Manahan Thomas, and acclaimed tenor, Nicholas Mulroy.
The party atmosphere will continue at the Festival's Folk Night, featuring Welsh trio ALAW, who received an enthusiastic reception at the 2018 Proms.
Also highlighting the Festival's track record, there will be an emphasis on the involvement of young people. Elin Manahan Thomas will, in collaboaration with Crickhowell High School, be running a vocal masterclass for the Society's Choral Scholars and their talents wil be on display in the Scholars' Concert. Pupils will also provide the dancers for the Fairy-Queen masque.
An uplifting experience all round! Early booking advised.
